Save from drifting off the point in the final match thread, lets have a poll with no cheese on toast.

1. Rodriguez
2. Luiz
3. Cahill

for me, van persie's was class, i just think these three were even more quality, surprised luiz' doesn't get as much attention tbh, was a worldie of a free kick.

Van Persie's diving lob-header. It was special, and a genuine one-off.

Tho' the Cahill one almost brought a tear to my eye, and Hamez's volley was very tasty.

Bias showing here, lads.

If you love volleys then James' was the best I've ever seen. The little look over his shoulder, the turn, the aesthetics of the motion and connection, off the underside of the bar in a crucial game.

Cahill's was ace, like. My 2nd favourite of the tournament.

Van Persie third. Amazing technique but the pinnacle of volleys beats the pinnacle of headers any day.

I think hitting a volley first time from a lofted pass coming in over your shoulder takes better technique than bringing it down and slotting it. Cahill for me

The actual connection, yeah fair enough but the stuff before the strike is what makes James' so great. The look over his shoulder, the perfect control, the 180 degree swivel whilst surrounded by defenders. It was the most aesthetically pleasing goal I've ever seen.

Yep this was my order when the BBC showed them on Sunday, although it was close between Cahill and Van Persie, all 3 were brilliant though.

You see a lot of volleys in football. They're tricky, but they're part of the day job. You see quite a few headers, usually nodded in from a cross or suchlike.

But you never see a header like van Persie's. It was simply unique. Without doubt, the goal of the tournament for me.

Cahill's. Not even arsed.

He had to hit that first time. He didn't have any time to control it and set himself up. Also, it was his wrong foot.

Better than some of Zlatan's? Or are you just exaggerating a bit?

It is a wonderful goal no doubt. And I would rate it just a touch above Cahill's but I dunno about most aesthetically pleasing I've ever seen.

Van Persie's volley vs us, or Shearer's volley vs us, are both more aesthetically pleasing.
