Just went out and bought an e cig from a shop near mine. Got it with some nice flavours like blueberry and strawberry. Asked for iron bru as well but got peach drops ffs.

Anyway just dawned on me this will be me giving up smoking for good and it's daunting to say the least.

Anyone else using them and got any tips? Last thing I want to do is overdose on the thing! How often do you use it and how.long does it take to not want to smoke a real one again?

Rechargeable.

Tbh it's probably dodgy and reckon I absorbed too much nicotine into my skin earlier trying to fill the thing.

I used to work in a hospital and it was a part of this European funding agreement which meant it was called a "no-smoking campus", so no patients were allowed smoke on the grounds and had to actually go out close to the motorway for a fag. A lot of them found the e-cigs useful at first but I noticed that they almost overwhelmingly would fall back into old habits after a week or two. I'm no expert, but from what I've seen, they're not particularly effective in the long-term, at least on their own.

However, you do seem serious about giving them up, which is a lot more than I could say for a lot of those patients who were just inconvenienced by the effort imposed on them by the new regulations. I'd say keep using them, but make sure you're exploring other methods (my dad found Alan Carr books and these hypnosis tapes useful and he's off them about 15 years now) in conjunction with them. The most important thing is that you've recognized the need to give them up, so best of luck!

Go to your doc and ask for a prescription of Champix. It's got the best clinically proven success rate for people who want to quit smoking - and it does it without containing nicotine - Using nicotine replacement just perpetuates the addiction, albeit in a safer form.

Tried ecigs but never really worked for me. I rang the quitline back in Feb and was given Champix, which worked really well for me, not had a cig since. I would recommend anyone try it, although they are careful who they give it to as the way in which it works can also make you depressed. Or something like that anyway, so they will kee an eye on you mental health.

There's very little clinical evidence to suggest that this is actually a real side effect of champix - far more likely to simply be a side effect of giving up smoking in general. There was one big case that hit the papers where a guy topped himself while taking it, but there was not solid evidence to show a casual relationship.

i can't believe that these things are much better for your body.best of luck though mate
Nicotine isn't particularly harmful to you in itself - it's all the other cr*p in cigs that's really bad for you. The problem with e-cigs (and gum/patches etc) is that really all they do is feed the nicotine addiction.

I gave up using one of these, well kind of, I used one for 9 months then fell off the wagon for about a month but really didn't enjoy the smoking anymore, found the taste of tobacco horrible, could just taste the tar. So after a month of part time smoking I just gave up again, cold turkey no e-cigs or anything, been 13 months since I smoked Baccy now.

Some of my mates have been using the the e-cigs for a couple of years, they prob won't stop but it's better than smoking real cigs.

How much was it all?
25 I paid. For the stick and a few extra little bottles of the stuff In case the fella goes out of business haha apparently will last me 80 days roughly so if so I will probably save 200 quid in that time.

To be honest the reason I've moved over is that I am very close to welcoming a little Ashton into the house so I thought with me smoking I would have to go through the whole washing face and hands etc every time I wanted to go near her and that's far too much messing for a ciggie. So if I move over to this. I won't smell of smoke, my lungs will clear so no more coughing and save money for the other half to piss away on something. Either way win all round

Thank Christ for that, I opened this thread expecting an "I'm leaving GOT to spend more time with my family" type post !
Good luck with the e-cigs mate.

Good luck mate. I gave up about six weeks ago. Just went cold turkey. It wasn't as hard as I thought and I probably only think of them a couple of times a day now, so it's becoming easier.
