Have just noticed that Outlook has a 'Delay Delivery' option.

Yes but that's not the issue. Notice submitted and accepted today means my last day (by the letter of the law, 4 weeks notice) would be 20th Jan. That's 9 days til I start my new job. That's a lot of days not to be paid for. I need to make sure it all ties in with no loss of wage.

Easy sorted. Write the letter and state you wish to work your notice period effective from the 2nd Jan. Post it today to the HR dept.

End of story, now stop panicking you Mary.

Yep, I think the best thing is to post it. Was planning to email it, what with it being 2014 and all. But sometimes, the old school way solves a lot of problems.

Proper paper letter sent to HR. Email to my boss (he's in New York, and on holiday at the moment). Email also to HR in case the letter ends up with the wrong person (almost certainly will!).
