For Britain it's been a tremendous start to the race, with Cavendish in pink yesterday and David Millar taking over today. Completely overshadowed by the death of Wouter Weylandt today though. He crashed on a descent. Terrible news

I turned on the stream just as that occurred and saw them doing hard core CPR...that is pure tragic.

For some reason I still watch cycling. With all the doping and doping coverups, a good bike racing stream is a good way to get through a slow work morning while drinking a coffee.

Movistar Team rider Xavier Tondo has been killed in a freak accident at a ski resort in southern Spain.

The 32-year-old Spaniard was crushed between his car and a garage door as he prepared to set off for training, local police said.

Off topic - anyone watch the Tour of California that finished yesterday?

Horner won the Tour but made a bit of a tit of himself by declaring only Contador could beat him on mountain stages. I dont think it went down too well with Andy Schleck who was riding in that race. He came across as a bit of a fantasist.

Not been a good month for the sport to lose two such fine riders.

Horner is nowhere near Contador and Schleck. I can't see Contador riding the Tour so it would seem Schleck's to lose.

Why would Contador miss the TDF?

Schleck: he looked very poor in California. Not in it on the climbs and still average in the time trial when he was obviously eyeballs out trying to put a good time in.

I can't see him being allowed to ride given the ongoing investigation into his beef eating habits. I suspect that's why he did the Giro this year.

Ha Ha - beef-eating habits. I see what you mean. I cant see why he'd duck the Tour and still do the Giro though.

I dont like the feller. The way he dropped Schleck in the Pyrenees last year was a disgrace.
