S'kinda funny that, 'cos Sonic used to drink in my local in Northampton occasionally, and I played in a band with some of the guys from Spiritualized/Spacemen for a little while.

Verve were bloody great in the early days. Saw them very early on, around the time of "All In the Mind" and Richard was like a man possessed.

He was, bit of a transformation when he became a 'star' tbh.

I know it's their later stuff that shot them to stardom, but for me they never got near this again:

Nick McCabe is absolutely phenomenal on it. He just unleashes an absolute psychedelic whirlwind of guitar noise. Best thing they ever recorded, they never translated properly to record.

I like gigs, so i'll have to narrow it down a bit:

This year, probably front row for Nine Inch Nails at the Scala, though Prodigy, Maiden, Limp Biscuit, and Metallica were all pretty ace this weekend.

Babymetal are nuts, Virgin Marys are a current favourite and are far better live than recorded, Dropkick Murphys are pretty good and Reel Big fish throw a great party at a festival.

Outside of this year though:

Overall Iron Maiden in Sweden as part of the flight 666 package where Bruce Dickinson flew the plane, or the gig in Dublin where NIN supported the Foo Fighters were probably top.

U2 always rock live.

Muse at Teignmouth was superb, blowing away their big Wembley gigs.

Levellers playing levelling the land in Brixton Academy was superb as well.

Pearl Jam aside, I think I have now seen every band I like.

Anybody going to Neil Young tonight in the echo?

I've not been the echo before and I'm apprehensive about it. Anybody know if it's any good?

Arena gigs are rarely as good as your traditional gig venues, but the sound quality is usually excellent. Good if you want to sit and enjoy the music rather than get stuck in with a sweaty moshing crowd.
