Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac claims he turned down a move to Everton during last month's transfer window.

Gignac's future at Marseille has been the subject of speculation for some time with the player currently out of favour under Didier Deschamps.

Fulham were also linked with a move for Gignac last month and reports in France claim Marseille offered Everton the chance to sign the 26-year-old.

However, Gignac snubbed the proposed move to Merseyside, preferring to stay at Stade Velodrome with the France international also thought to have snubbed offers from Nice, Brest and Lorient

"Everton is a top club in England but for me Marseille is bigger and more attractive," Gignac said.

"I want to play one day abroad but at a bigger club like the Manchester Uniteds of this world.

"I do want to make a name for myself at Marseille. I love the club."

I am not too bothered about him tbh. He appeared to be a class act a few years ago but has struggled since he moved to Marseille. I am more than happy with jelavic and think he could be top quality - and the money we paid for him was not a silly amount in todays market. I would like to see what 'bigger' club would come in for him!!!!

Marseille is a bigger club then Everton?

Well they've won a champions league title and regularly compete in the competition, to be fair.

I doubt titles in the 80s mean much to a current player; they just want to win things and be in the CL. They offer a better chance of both.

Didn't this felaa get sent to fat camp by marsaille for not looking after himself properly? Plus has enjoys sitting on the bench if he wants to play for Man Utd - he's clearly deluded if he thinks he'd get in thier starting XI

Had one good season and got a move to Marseille and now he can't get a game, probably one of those players who stands out in an average side.

As regards to Marseille being a "bigger" club than us, if we played in ligue 1 we would be pushing for Champions League every season as there isn't the strength in depth in the french league that there is in the premiership. Just my opinion :)

I turned down a chance to sign with Everton in the transfer window as well.

Just as believable as this guy.
