Gig prices

I rarely go to gigs these days. Maybe I’m missing some good stuff, but in my sheltered opinion, there’s hardly anyone still alive worth seeing (or not past their best, ala Dylan, Neil Young etc..)

So when I saw Morrissey playing some bowl in Manchester city centre, I thought that’s got to be worth seeing. Can’t say I’ve heard any of his solo stuff, but he’s worth a punt for the Smiths stuff..

So went to buy tickets. SEVENTY QUID! WTF??? People complain about footy prices. What’s the average footy ticket price? 40 quid? And you’ve got 22 millionaires running round for that. Plus subs, managers, staff etc... how can a gig justify that money?

The moaning fat puff!

..joking, I like the bloke.

Musicians are rarely good live, save your money and stick your iPod on, added benefit of not being surround by sweaty meffs

It`s all relative mate.

Since the death of vinyl and then CD`s, Concerts and merchandise are how they make their money now.

Depending on your musical tastes, there`s loads and loads of smaller. cheaper venues that you can see decent bands every week.

Also some of the tribute bands are as good as the real bands - Aussie Floyd, The Jamm are two that immediately spring to mind.

Aussie Floyd are very good. Audience is full of old men playing air guitar though lol

Tis nuts.

Last gig I went to was AC/DC, (no surprise there) at the NEC about 6 plus years ago, with my lad. Tickets were about £40, not too bad I thought.

But since then its gone daft.

Saw AC/DC on the Back in Black tour in Bristol. £3.50.

Not in Liverpool it isn`t.

Last one I went to, was full of Wigs, skunked off their faces.

It was like being in the St End bogs at half time lol
Of course, Floyd were always huge in Liverpool, Floyd, Dylan and Bob Marley were the 3 god's when I was growing up.

Personally, to paraphrase a dear departed RS manager, if they were playing in my back garden, I would draw the curtains.
Talking about the Stones on their current tour. Guy in work paid £480 for a pair of tickets for the Old Trafford date. Face value of £49.95.
That's some mark up from an accredited agency.

The thing with the Stones, people think they`re going to start popping off any time soon, so this could be the last chance to see them lol

Agree on the tribute bands. Young enthusiastic guys who love what they’re doing beats 70 year olds going through the motions to pay off their 4th wife any day.

Seen the Australian Pink Floyd years ago at the L2 doing early stuff. Nearest thing I’ll ever see to Syd B doing Astronome Domine. Later saw them doing later stuff & didn’t like it, but then I never liked their later stuff.

Used to be a bunch of Zappa devotees. Can’t remember the name, but one of the best gigs I’ve ever seen.
