Anybody got one? Would you recommend?

I'm looking to move into my own place soon (flat) and might fancy getting a mid-range (500 quid) projector for next season's football and movie nights, etc.

I'd put my TV in the bedroom and install the projector in the main room.

Also, what would the quality be like when streaming something such as Sky Go or BT Sports? I know I wouldn't be getting HD quality there like, but assume it'd still be decent.

Thanks.

£500's quite low really mate, especially if you'reincluding a screen in that price. Check out avforum, they have a good classified section that may be of use to you, and pay particular attention to motion issues in reviews too dude.

I've got an optoma projector. Unless you have a completely light controlled room you can pretty rule out watching it during the day.

They're brilliant for watching hd films and sport when set up properly. There was a good optoma 3d 1080p one on Hotdeals recently for about five ton.

I only use mine occasionally, I'm not sure you could use one to replace your normal tv.

You'll also need some sort of Av receiver and speaker set up, as although projectors may say they have a built in speaker it will be worse than that on a cheap tv.

I have a friend that does this. Any show (movie/sports) is impressive when it's displayed at 107 inches. He uses AV Forums, so that's your best bet unless you find someone who knows exactly what you should need. I'd ask him to comment, but I can't translate nerd into English.

Before you get the projector get EVERYTHING else first. By that I mean a room big enough to take it, that you can make perfectly dark, and then the surface on which you are projecting - has to be immaculate - so you'll use a drop down screen, it'll move and you'll notice.

Save your money and get a massive tv, one with loads of computers in it to make sure you don't get 'area lag'. Its also much easier to sell on as and when you want to.

Agree that you need the room dark, and your room needs to be a certain size at a minimum (probably 8x10?), but it is easy enough to do the rest. Curtains? Not too hard to make a room dark. A drop down screen isn't that hard to do, and your room will look sharp with no TV and all the other crap on the wall. You could install the screen above a window (need the curtains behind to block incoming light) so you don't need an extra wall.

I work I have a Projection Design rear projection set-up running 1080p stereo-scopic on active shutters. screen size is 4.5x2.5m, get one of these if you can mate. Projection Design projector cost circa £20k.

I've had an Optoma HD projector for about 5 years, it's superb for footy, movies and gaming.
Forget a screen, most are too small, paint a wall white instead. Get a ceiling mount a decent HDMI cable and a powerful surround sound system, you won't regret it
