Getting a new car - advice needed

Here is a true story about Italian cars in the Eighties. When I was a lad I had a Fiat Uno. Cracking little thing to drive. 903cc engine meant foot to the floor almost 100% of the time.

When the shaft of the distributor wore so much that it needed replacing my local garage told me to just buy a new complete distributor as it would be cheaper than buying the part and repairing. "Why?" I asked.

Apparently there was a design flaw and rather than fix it they just sent dealers 4 distributors for each Uno.

My next car was a Toyota Carina
