Time to cut your lawns & sow seeds in any gaps remember to rake the tilth in the gaps & rake the seed in well - Home Bargain cheapest for grass seed ....
I was on the tiller Joey making a start on the veg patch once more. Mrs just cutting pack overgrown shrubs etc. Lighter nights too shortly. Still a bit boggy here to get the mower out though just yet. I'll give the new strimmer a blast tomorrow.

@Joey66 plant your cucumbers today ?

My quince bush is flowering for the second time this year. Can I still prune it @Joey66 ?
The season is all over the place 5- , 6 weeks behind in my opinion - the golden rule of any flowering plant is to prune well after flowering & fruiting - quince is an ornamental shrub - the fruit can be used to make jam if fully ripened - I used to propagate it in August/September in a cold frame by using semi wooded cuttings with a heel off the parent plant - this will come 100% true of the variety you have shade the cutting a bit & spray in hot weather -

Under polythene or glass - it is still not too late to propagate softwood cuttings of Hardy Perennials by using a bit of shade, & placing them in a clear polythene bag sealed to create the humidity needed to root them Lavenders etc, etc all root well - the guide for the polythene bag e.g. a clear kitchen bin liner type bag which is transparent - this is only used on plants that transpire immediately....

The season in the UK is about 5 - 6 weeks behind .... everyone bare that in mind ATM ...

Raccoons are getting into my garden.
Pee into a carton every time fill it up & sprinkle it around where they are entering might not stop them but will make them smell more - joking if they are territorial the Urine will at as a deterrent as the smell of the urine will deter them an insecure tactic so buy loads of ale & start urinating into a milk carton daily .... It works with cats - foxes etc

Cheers for the advice Joey, I do make quince jelly from it, although there were slim pickings last year. I pruned it in early October, and was going to do it again after it flowered last month. Should I just wait until these new flowers that have appeared, have died off ?

The flowers have to have set fruit - if not - prune the wood back to promote new growth - not too hard but back to a new shoot as I stated there is a good time for it to flower again - as soon as they flower again make sure they are not bone dry water well - to pollinate them after watering well spray the flowers with a very fine mist to set fruit - the season is all over the place hence the hiccup this year - so if the flowers are dead with no fruit behind them prune back to the next growing shoots & clear the middle of the shrub any branches tight or crossing each other if dense etc do not butcher it be sensible, but a light thinning out in the centre of the bush is advisable hard if dense to let bees & air get in - I remember the thorns on them when propagating them so wear gloves ....
A fine mist to set fruit is used in many orchards only after the plant is wet at the root - same applies to any fruiting plant as Bees are not in the numbers we once had or any pollinating insects -

Reason a chemical the EU have not banned known in my day as Temic a systemic insecticide pellet planted on crops to kill pest systemically - well it's killing a majority of bees, & Hover flies & ladybirds too .....
