anybody else following german footie? A couple of great players, very young coaches and great atmosphere due to standing sections.
which teams do you like or dislike?
I've got a couple of friends from Munich who support 1860, currently in the 2nd league since 14 seasons. Developed a liking for Schalke aswell recently.

Yeah I do.

Mainly women's football but I am also partial to a couple of lower league German sides like Tennis Berlin and most of the old DDR clubs.

Interesting! So do you get to watch the games through streams or rather just follow their results?
what's your opinion on Leipzig?

I'm a Bayern fan when it comes to women's football (which is odd as I hate the men's team..) and get to see most of their games as they stream a game once a week on the DFB website and show another via various German TV channels. They never seem to clash with Everton games which is nice too.

Its quite hard to watch any lower league German football but I always keep an eye out for any intriguing games on various streaming websites.

RB Liepzig is everything that is wrong with modern football for me. I get the logic behind the side as Chemie and Lokomotive all but disappeared but its still sad.

Its good to have an Eastern team in the Bundesliga but I would much prefer it to be a Dresden or a Magdeburg.

Absolutely agreed. I despise the whole concept of it. It started off here in Austria with Salzburg. They took over the club, changed it's colours and turned it into a bloody circus. Now Salzburg has turned into a feeder club for Leipzig.

Interesting you like the women's team of Bayern and despise the men's team. I hate everything about them. Even Basketball.

Dresden looked good for a couple of games. But it'll be tough to gain promotion this season. Nearly impossible with the likes of Hannover, Braunschweig and Stuttgart.

I currently live here so follow it a bit.

Going to Duisburg vs Osnabruck on Saturday. Went there last season when they were awful in Bundesliga 2 but now they are top of the third league and playing 3rd so should be good.

I don't really watch it, just don't have the time, but whenever I have I've been hugely impressed by the level of fan experience

I don't think any other league touches it to be honest

Tickets are reasonably priced, there's designated areas where you can go to stand and sing so you have more choice on how you want to watch and you can even have a pint in your seat whilst watching the match

Duisburg will be wearing a special shirt to comemmorate former striker Michael Tönnies. Hope you'll have a great day with lots of goals and a couple of beers. I love Augustiner and Veltins btw. What's your fav German beer?

I enjoy following the league; there are high quality games with great fan bases.

I'm partial to Dortmund for a combination of factors - playing style, youth development, and they're the only team besides Bayern that Fox Sports will consistently televise in the US.

Pils - I would go for Kolsch
Altbier - Diebels, although I can't remember the name there is a great brauhaus in Dusseldorf that I frequent when I visit

You mentioned Schalke, I have been there twice and it is one hell of a stadium. If Everton can replicate that kind of design then we will be OK in our new stadium. I would liken them to Everton as well, there is a real identity to the club and you can feel it as soon as you get off the train. Also, they are one of German clubs who don't play the song that shall not be named before games. One reason why I will never be a Dortmund fan :)

I haven't been to Gelsenkirchen but I heard tons of great stuff. Somehow I seem to tend to have a heart for underachieving clubs. And if you've heard about the infamous "4 minute championship" back in 2001, you hardly can hate Schalke. One of the most cruel moments in (german) football history. Unless you're a Bayern fan that is. Schalke is having themselves a really disappointing season so far. New coach Weinzierl and new sports director Christian Heidl getting stick for their handlings on & off the pitch from supporters and media alike. A win Saturday in Munich seems very unlikely and then it's against overachieving Hertha.

Regarding that horrible musical song I agree wholeheartedly! Unfortunately very common amongst German clubs.
