Cologne is a great city, I've been twice for weekend breaks and taken in a game at Colognes new stadium ( well about 10 years old now). I'd thoroughly recommend it. If you liked Brugges ( which is my favourite European city I've been to) I think you'd like Cologne, as others have said Cathedral is magnificent, very dark and gothic and the city has more of a 'town' feel to it rather than a major faceless city

I've been to Cologne and Munich and probably prefer Munich, but granted the visits were a decade apart. If you want to watch a decent football team as well then I'd opt for Munich personally. The food is amazing in Germany to be fair.

I went to Berlin in the summer and went to a Hertha game, was a brillinant experience in a great stadium.
Hamburg is a great great city, I'd definately go there. We also enjoyed Hannover & Munich. The only place that I didn't like was Frankfurt, now that's a dump!
