Looking at getting away over easter with the girlfriend for a few days to Germany.

Never been before so any recommendations? I went to Bruges last easter and loved it so would like one a bit like that in terms of architecture etc. And ideally with a good football team ;)

Hamburg is great, i would do a bit of research prior to deciding, also Munich and Berlin are great too, there is lots to do and see in all three places, but as i said depending on what your out for i would do a wee bit of research first. All are first rate places to visit though, i went to all three last year, and the people were great, and we saw plenty of things to keep us occupied....! Hope that helps.

Berlin is good but their teams aren't very good but Hertha play at the Olympic Stadium which could be worth a visit.

I spent 12 weeks in Germany last year with work and was just outside Cologne, which would be a great place for a weekend visit. The cathedral is stunning and if you want you can climb up to a viewing platform at 322ft above the ground which gives you great views of the Rhine, it's a climb up 509 stone steps but it's well worth it. The night life's good and there's a great club called The Underground if you like your music. As for football FC Cologne (currently in the German 2nd league) have a great little stadium with a great atmosphere and are playing at home against SSV Jahn Regensburg on Easter Sunday.

I've been Bremen, Hamburg, Dortmund and Munich all good and very much different in there own. Munich was best for what you're looking for.

Looking at going Cologne and Frankfurt in the next year.

Like others have said, Hamburg is boss, had a great time in St Pauli, though probably not best for going away with your bird! Spent six weeks in Bremen and had a good time there, the old town is pretty, good night out and its the home of Becks ffs

I didn't really like Bremen that much but only spent 2days there. The was a good pub that played reggae music near the brass houses though.

Been Hamburg 4 times and only ever been to the Reeperbahn/St Pauli district to watch St. Pauli.

I wish the UK was more like Germany!

Lots to do in Cologne, lived local for many years. A lot depends on what you want to do their. North Germany industrial, southern Germany more rural.

Enough to do in cologne/Bonn for 3 to 4 days, very good in the winter for its Xmas markets but freezing. Most speak English so no issues there.

Heidelberg is sound its an old town about an hour from Stuttgart or 20 mins from Mannheim. The archiecture is boss and its very picturesque also has plenty off bars and is full of young people because it has a good university there. Also a few English bars there were the customers speak English and are friendly.Beers are excellent in Germany.

I spent 3 years in Germany, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin and Munich are all great places to visit.

Some of the towns in Bavaria are great to visit, especially in the winter months.

Berlin's the best city to visit in terms of things to do and see. Hertha Berlin play at the Olympic stadium and it's very easy to get tickets.

Cologne is worthing going to just to see the Cathedral alone; it's massive!

Berlin - top city...loads to see and do.

Great Kebabs - From any Turkish street stall

Great Curry Wurst - Germany's national dish

Great architecture - Schloss Charlottenburg / Russian War memorial / Brandenburg gate/ Reichstag

Great Nightlife - on the Ku'damm, underground (Ku'dam eck), Eisenacher Strasse, and check out Klo's bar on, Liebnitzstrasse

This time of year - ice hockey and skating on the Frozen River Havel

Thanks for all the replies lads, was hoping for a clear cut answer to make it easier but seems theres a few worth a visit! Narrowed it down then to Munich, Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin will do a bit of extra research.

In fact may even see if theres a coach trip out there which stops at more than one city
