Beckford Vs Chelsea

I've honestly seen FA else apart from that outrageous goal.

Was he really boss like?

World Player of the Year that season I believe. I don't think he had sustained excellence but for a couple of seasons whilst at Milan he was pretty good but I wouldn't say he was great. Either side of him winning it you had guys like Matthaus, Baggio, Romario, van Basten and Ronaldo, and I don't think he really fits into that kind of company, but Milan were still good then, albeit nearing the end of their dominance.

Have to disgaree with that. I felt like he carried a lot of players past their sell by date in that side and carried the club through a tough transition as the Dutch influence faded. He was class in france too.

Newcastle had a pre-contract agreement with weah that he had to get out of to sign for Milan. If I remember right they had to pay the Geordies a fair bit of compo. How much would that have changed their situation?

Not saying he wasn't a decent player but his record wasn't all that good. Shevchenko effectively replaced him at Milan and his record is significantly better. When Milan won the league it was primarily down to their fantastic defence. They scored around the same number of goals as the other top teams, but conceded around 10 goals fewer.

Weah himself scored much fewer than the likes of Signori and Batistutua. A decent player for sure, but I don't think you can call a striker that didn't score better than a goal every 2 games great, especially whilst playing for the title winning side of the era.

I was just saying the other day how misleading goal per game stats can be when judging strikers. Heskey at Liverpool had a better goalscoring record then Zola at Chelsea. You want to argue that Heskey was the better player?
