We are there from Tuesday, been looking around for places to eat and drink and its frightening the prices.

anyone found anywhere to meet up or reasonable to go for a few beers?

Look at the link - it has a map and tram links. Annemasse. Half-price beer, food, accommodation sounds a good plan.
