We did it just through talking with family members and went back 7 generations............

...its really important to pick the brains of the old folk. Unfortunately a lot of interesting information and leads are lost when they pass. I had an uncle in a nursing home and he gave a real insight into what were just names. Youngsters might not be interested now but will be later. Also good to get folk to put names on the back of old pictures so that you know who they are.

Yeah, I have a really old photo of family and my mother knew the names of everyone on it, my mother died and I haven't a clue who is who............
