Lots of moaning about lack of gender balance in the line-ups for this summer's music festivals. Artists are booked because they sell tickets full stop!

The bandwagon participants destroy every real issue, racism, sexism, bias against trans people etc. They search for reasons to take offence or show how 'on trend' they are with the latest fashionable reason to be offended. They dilute the real issue by spouting drivel that exists only in their heads.

So are you angry at festivals? Pro-equality? Anti-gender neutral toilets?

I'm a bit dim, so don't quite get your point. Cheers.

Davey (it / that)

Assuming I am anti gender neutral toilets is typical of the type.
The simple point is that artists appearing at festivals are chosen because they sell tickets and fit the theme. They are not chosen because of their gender.
Likewise all the silly title changing (glad you joined in) after names. Nobody has to apologise for being male or female.

Ah, so you hate he-shes and toilets. I don't like toilets either.

It's not quite as simple as that for larger festival. Festivals tend to use booking agents and will go from the roster they have.

The festivals give an idea of what they want and the booking agents look for that. There can be laziness on both sides of that.

Women musicians are seem to be either the biggest in the world in their fields, or fairly small (with a lot of male based musicians taking up the middle). There is no reason that festivals can put on smaller female based acts which would help them push further up. There is very little to no risk in doing that.

I think people's annoyance is when festivals book some 90s terrible britpop act against giving someone new a chance.

Artists just make their way. To discriminate on behalf of women is more than a bit offensive to women in my opinion. They do not need a lift from some patronising men to be a success.

Maybe they could go to a female based booking agent then? They don't have to be men.
