Grading from A* to G is being replaced with 1 to 9.
No coursework.. And all on the day exam.

First exams in 2015.

Good or bad idea ? Or Dosent it matter as much anymore ??

As said, i don't think GCSE's should be looked at too much in the future for employers etc, half the stuff i learnt i've not used in the 4 years since.

But on the topic, i don't think its good. I'm one of those who crumble under the pressure of exams and often try and get the best out of my coursework to give me the better chance of doing well, without coursework subjects i'd be f*cked right now.

I'm against the idea. What if you're a top student but happen to have a really shyt day? But then I have always been against the idea of a "G" grade being a pass (to get a G grade you basically just had to write the first three letters of your name and walk out)

Unfortunately, a good education means nothing anymore (and Michael Gove is a tit) - this country has no ambition, we reward mediocrity. Like relegated teams getting "parachute payments".

For instance I wanted to get support from the Prince's Trust to start my own business but am ineligible due to the fact I have a masters.

If I was a criminal or a smackhead though they'd welcome me with open arms! It makes me SICK! (Thumps table while reading DM in a naff coffee bar with great wifi)

Rant over.

The idea of having an A and then an A* is pretty rediculous. Just bump the normal A's down to Bs and reclassify everyone else based on a normal distribution. Simples!
If we have 50% of students getting the top grades then it makes a mockery of our the whole system.

arent maths and english the only ones employers are really bothered about? you wonder if they should be prioritised or examined differently...dunno

No coursework is a good idea from the point of view of getting GCSEs back on track as an academic qualification. Be very surprised if any government wanted to do this, though, as it would decimate grades. Be a 180 reversal, which would then knock on to A-level numbers and people going to university.

What are grades supposed to represent? A comparative level amongst your peers, or some sort of an arbitarily determined level? The latter makes less sense but is more popular as it means we can all get As and feel good about ourselves.

They're meant to represent both things. Which is why you have As and A*s, and Oxbridge usually gives out more firsts than other universities.
