Great Britain are in Latvia today in the final group of qualification for the Olympics.

There group is Latvia, France and Kazakstan. Only one team will go through.

Just want to wish all the boys good luck over the next 4 days. I saw NHL games in canada/us and its a great sport to watch live. Would be great if something started here and only the olympic participation could accelerate the process.

Didn't it attempt to go all Franchisey here ?

A mate used to get the train to Manc Victoria and go in the M.E.N. He said it was dead cheap and beat sitting in the pub as theyd get lashed and then straight on the train back.

How many of them are actually british?

Not having a go just interested, normally we just ship in a few yanks and canadians.

The Kazakhs will wallop us.

Knew a bloke from there, he considered -10 celcius to be sweltering.

Actually just looked on Wikipedia. One of our players plays his domestic ice hockey in the Kazakh league. That's a bit embarrasing, like.

its well ove 80% that are british. the cricket/rugby union teams are much worse but no points that out.

ok ladZ. I can't see why you want to see your team be smashed all over the place in the Olympics to be honest. There's not enough teams on decent level in that 'sport'.

just found out that its live on ESPN AT 5.30PM :)

One of our players is from the Kazakh league and another is from the swedish second flight.

I get the impression we're at about the same level as the finnish football team.

germany (and most of the time norway, slovakia and switzerland) can't really field a competitive team so you really struggle to make a competitive tournament out of it.

Pretty much this albeit in icehockey there's more goals so while you could set up a footballing side to defend and snatch sneaky 1-0 or draw in icehockey you'll just lose 8-0.

Cricket ... oh well let's just say I can see why it hasn't catched on anywhere else than the former slaves of the empire.

have you seen the crowds in domestic leagues in france germany switzerland and italy? full houses. in canada, russia, finland, sweden, czech republic and slovakia we are talking teams and players with a high level of skill set and the sport is the number 1 so its very hard to compete. its not like in rugby where its colonial and with little interest from the colonial nations other than new zealand.

handball is huge in europe but dead here.

the czechs had the best goaltender in the world and won the olympic gold medal by uber defensive. russia were the only team to score against them. you can get blown away though if you dont keep your discipline and commit penalties- costing you men for minutes of games.

i've seen nhl playoff games go into the 5th-6th extra overtime period for a golden goal. at the highest level defensivemen and goaltenders know how to shut down the really skillful players like in football.

Ok mate. Point proven when Team GB qualifies and keeps a clean sheet in all their group games.

Probably lower, there's a greater drop-off from the top ice hockey teams to the bottom. With all due respect, the GB ice hockey team would be more like a San Marino.

Still, I think it'd be great if they could qualify.
