Is right

If I want to dress up as Jo and watch Friends Series 2 with Nik, you know, when Chandler was at his best, who's gonna tell me that's not on!!

Series 2? You think? I think they are all at there best from Series 4 upwards. But the biggest improvement throughout the whole show is Ross. By 9 or 10 he has me in tears. Best character.

The one thing I've learned is to not take any notice of stereotypes. Statistically speaking you will meet gay people that abide by stereotypes. Just like you'll meet Irish people that live up to stereotypes, or scallys, or any kind of stereotype you can thing of.

However one of my gay friends surprised the hell out of everyone when he came out. He is from the outside, a really chavvy kind of person. You know; tracksuits all day long, skinhead, crap taste in music (BUTTERKIST AWAY). He still is like that. I'd imagine if I was actually gay I'd still be the same, really. My interests, appearance, dress sense, everything, I really don't think have anything to do with my sexuality.

Anyway, you'll meet people that live up to stereotypes -- of course you will because all stereotypes have to originate from something -- but don't let that paint an erroneous picture.

I'm going to use this as an excuse to copy and paste a story I adore from "Notalwaysright" (a site where shop workers post dumb customers stories that I used to read all the time when I worked in retail).

(While stocking items on the shelf I notice a guy sitting by the changing rooms with the bored, “being forced to go shopping with the missus” look on his face.)

Me: “Girlfriend making you comment on everything in the store?”

Guy: “Me? No. I’m gay. My friend only just found out and figured we could go shopping together despite my protests.”

Me: “Sorry bout the mistake, you just had the usual ‘get me out of here’ look.”

(At this point the girl comes out of the changing room to show off her outfit.)

Girl: “What do you think?”

Guy: “I don’t know. It’s good, I guess.”

Girl: *in a huff* “You’re no good at this! What’s the point in being gay if you don’t like shopping for clothes?!”

(She storms back into the changing room.)

Guy: “Jeez, this is worse than having to come out to my parents.”

Gays live in Manchester, right?

Canal St. mate. Its an eyeopener. I've been a couple of nights all like 'i dont care I'm just gonna have a sik night with my friends blah blah blah'. Nah, it is really uncomfortable.

Had to ask him to be gentle.

One of my oldest Friends is Gay, when I 1st knew him he was the un-gayest person on the planet (following RFUS stereotyping post) , no dress sense , awful taste in music etc .

Now after being out for 12 years he's as gay as they come, he's still a geek and an old woman but he dresses like one would expect very well turned out and he has a complete upper body tattoo and will take his shirt off to dance at the first opportunity.

He had a Civil ceremony in 2006 and I was erm best man. It was the best, liveliest and most enjoyable wedding I've ever been too. Basically none of your airs and graces , just everyone there of all persuasions to have a good old party. then everyone off to a club till early hours.

The Stag do was an eye opener, I'd been to provincial Gay club before with him and the missus, so kinda latched onto her just In case I got involved in a drive by bumming ... Anyway it was in Canal street where its a lot more open ... once you get over the fact that
a: your not instantly irresistible to all gay men
b: no one is going to shove a cock in your face, not unless you ask them to
...its actually a good laugh, far less of an testosterone atmosphere that you get in straight clubs ..

We went into club called the Napoleon , it was sold as a transvestite club, fully expecting Bangkok Lady boys, what we saw was hairy arsed middle aged blokes in Floral dresses attempting to dance round their handbags .. hilarious

Anyway we're still in touch and will go out sometimes a straight place and sometimes a gay club. It's a good laugh, you might get chatted up which you just say no thanks to and if Im honest its kinda flattering plus it will increase your chances of pulling lesbians searching for a love truncheon .... It hasn't happened yet but ...hey I can dream .. plus there's loads of straight women in there cos they feel less threatened ..

THIS. Think that was my main problem when I ventured out to Canal St. I was very aware and paranoid. And the fact that you get your arse slapped wherever you walk. One of my mates kicked off and I was like, dude remember where we are and he calmed down, but I didnt like the atmosphere. I'm not homophobic whatsoever but walking around the place and seeing dudes getting with dudes everywhere was very surreal. Had to stop myself from staring! But it's only because I'm not used to it. Found everyone there to be really friendly even when I did say I was straight. Got one filthy look and thats it haha!
