The inquest into the death of Wales football manager Gary Speed has been told by the team's GP that he showed no signs of stress and depression.

The evidence was given by Dr Mark Ridgewell on Speed, 42, who played for a number of Premier League clubs.

Speed was found by his wife, Louise, hanged at their home in Huntington, near Chester, in November.

Five statements will be read, including one from his wife, and friend and ex-England captain Alan Shearer.

Shearer was with Speed the day before he was found dead in November.

Dr Bob Muggleton, the medical officer at Sheffield United - the club Speed managed before taking on the Wales job - told the inquest in Warrington that he had worked with him until 2010 and no mental health issues were raised during that time.

Mrs Speed arrived at the inquest in Warrington shortly before it began with a number of family and friends.

The League Managers' Association is expected to release a statement on her behalf after the hearing.

An inquest was previously opened and adjourned a couple of days after his death.

That earlier brief hearing was told that his wife Louise found her husband's body just before 07:00 GMT on 27 November and called the ambulance service, but police were not treating the death as suspicious.

The hearing was also told that reports were being awaited from the pathologist.

Its total speculation but it could be that she was leaving him and knows that if she says that in public some fans may well blame her for his death.....

A very sad tale but im sure all of us have been extremely depressed being in a highly stressful job myself 7 years ago and being dumped by a 'love of my life' type girl.....you do consider doing crazy things....

For me it was for a short time before it passed through my mind....for him with it being a long term wife he may have just just done it out of pure depression and stress.

Wouldn't say I've been THAT bad but I know where you're coming from. Poor guy. Just incredible how he hid it from everyone so well. Tragic.

I feel very sorry for his wife - if it comes out that they had a big argument the night before then she'll be portrayed as a horrible woman who caused Speed's death, which obviously isn't true as all couples have arguments.

Yeah, I wouldnt have done it but it does cross your mind....working long hours in a massively stressful job and then you get dumped.....felt like the world was ending.

For Speed obviously he must have felt it a lot worse if this is the case !!

Come on lads. It's human nature to want to know what/ why it happened. You can pretend you don't wanna know all you like, but you'll all still be checking this thread for updates whilst trying to maintain a moral highground. Not having a pop you know I love you Muggs x

I don't honestly think anything good can come out of this thread at this point. Its a breeding ground for idle speculation.

It may be worth discussing when there is more information available, but at the moment it doesn't seem there is.

I hope you understand what i'm saying. It's not really about moral high ground but rather respecting an Evertonian no longer with us.

14 posts and already someone has been banned is an indication of how its going.

I, personally, am totally happy to find out what happened, when they know for certain what happened. If they never find out, neither do I. At the moment, nothing adds up, and thats what i'm worried about in this thread.
