Gareth Barry has been banned for one match by the FA for abusing Mark Clattenburg following Sunday's Manchester derby.

What he reportedly said to Clattenburg was: "'How far can you get up Fergie's arse, you thick [Poor language removed]" although this cannot be confirmed.

Personally I'm glad he got banned, mabe should have been two games, managers get two games for calling into question a referee's integrity and as for abusing a match official it's an absolute disgrace.

Everyone saying that 'Barry is a legend' needs to have a look at themselves

I don't understand how a player thinks that's acceptable. I mean fair enough saying stuff like '**** off ref' or 'what the **** was that for?' But calling him a 'thick ****' is well over the line.

Totally agree. Don't think it's right to tell the ref to '**** off' but i understand that it's part of the game and that passion can take over. abuse like that though is obviously preempted and totally over the line

Its funny because ref's put up with abuse all match every match, and 1 accusation of abuse back and he's out for 4 weeks.

Surrounding the referee is the worst for me. If you have an issue, you should have to let your captain know, then he speaks to the ref.

If you have loads of players surrounding the referee, sbusing him, screaming at him, each player that surrounds him, should get a match period equal to that of the number of players surrounding him. That'd soon stop it. 9 players around the referee, 9 players wilth 9 match bans. Feck'em
