Just wondering how this works in relation to football.
I'm still sore about us paying such an enormous sum to Martinez the fraud after his sacking.
Wouldn't it have been more cost effective to just put him in charge of the girls under 11 team (on the same wages) and wait for him to resign rather than sack him and pay 10 mil in compensation?
Did his contract stipulate that he had to be in charge of the first team otherwise we'd be in breach of it?

You have answered your own question with the answer " contract "

We gave him a new contract after his first year and everyone on here was delighted as they thought Barca was going to poach him.

Seriously, if we put him in charge of the under 11's he would have quit and claimed it as constructive dismissal and easily won a claim against us.

The fault of the payout lies with Everton, it was in his contract and entitled to it.

My understanding is that when a manager is let go contractually you are obliged to pay their wage or agreed percentage until such time as the contract expires or they secure permanent employment elsewhere.

I would assume that termination and remuneration/compensation are spelled out in the contract

My only beef with it is that I think he should have been paid out over time, with the payments ending when he takes up new employment. Surely his agent got a better deal for him than that, but seems criminal that he can take payment for multiple jobs over the same term.
