Games Industry

The indie game scene is thriving now. The guys that are making games in their bedrooms now will no doubt be working on GTA 8 or whatever in a few years.

I'm constantly buying games like FTL, Hotline Miami and NeoScavenger that I'll hardly touch, just to support the developers.

Great little game that!!! Lots of quick fun!

I follow the UK scene a bit as I know a few people working in the industry over there, so I've noticed that. The good thing about games is that if you take one big company down it just spurs a few new smaller companies so I feel that the talent is not lost. UK used to do some of the best games and I reckon it'll continue to do that.

I'm probably going to emigrate if it doesn't improve here to be honest, but there's a long way to go really. It's an ever-changing industry.

Excellent point. It really is the industry's saving grace at the moment. Some of the best and most memorable games I've played in recent years have been indie titles. Platforms like Steam are absolute Godsends... well except when they have those pesky sales on!

Anyone know whether it's worth getting a Degree in Games Design, it seems the only way in for me at the moment. I have a BTEC in Games Design, I'd just love to skip the fees of uni and jump in at entry level in a company as an apprentice sort of thing.

I guess one of the main problems is living around Liverpool and not having a car. There's nothing around here any more.
