Future recruitment team & strategy

Player Valuation: £20m
Merlín mentioned that we were keeping tabs on him for over a year and it got me thinking that this transfer window still had the fingerprints of red Kev all over it. (and I think he was very effective with limited resources and did us great service)

One of the new guys involved in recruitment (not sure his name but think he was ex-City) was on gardening leave all summer and didn't/ couldn't contribute.

Think I read somewhere too that the Friedkin's bought a data analytics company on football performance.

Having worked in executive recruitment, I'm surprised we didn't go after some of the crew from Brighton or Bournemouth as they have not had a Petro State backing them and have been very creative in identifying emerging talent globally years ahead of the competition and flipping them for huge profits.

So what should we be expecting from our new recruitment team?

A new right back would be nice, and long over due.

We’re not running the same strategy as Brighton and Bournemouth. If we were we would have sold Ndiaye for 40 mill this summer to Milan. We wouldn’t have loaned Grealish. We would have sold Branthwaite the season before to United. Pickford wouldn’t be here anymore. We wouldn’t have bought KDH. The younger players like Dibling, Alcaraz, Merlin, Aznou, Barry, OBrien would all already be eyeing up an exit strategy for the end of the season and would have joined under the premise that we wouldn’t stop them.

Every club, agent, and player in the market would know that we are buying solely to increase the value of the player to put them in the shop window for another club.

We’re trying to sell a project to players to join us long term and try and get us into Europe and then push further. Yes there might be sales but they’ll be at a minimum and hopefully after the player has given us good service. We’ll then be looking for a long term replacement.

I know we’ve had a busy window this time round but I can barely tell you who plays for Bournemouth or Brighton because they change their 11 nearly every season. It’s not the model for us. We need to buy and sell better of course but we can’t just be a player flipper or feeder team for the top clubs which is what they’ve become.

Great post.

Is there room for competing with them re talent identificación without copying the player flipping model?

I scored the summer 7/10 so I am pretty satisfied with how things went.

Bearing in mind key figures like James Smith and Nick Cox are only starting now, we will hopefully benefit from a period of stability which will be reflected in co-ordination and synergy across all areas. We really need all elements of the club going in the same direction under strong leadership. It has been a good start.

I don't think we'll see a window like this again at least not in terms of numbers. A lot will depend on how we do this season in terms of how future windows work out.

That they dealt with gardening leave the same as the rest of us. I hope it was really City who tracked Rohl.

No point going after individuals from Brighton, their owner Tony Bloom basically runs an analytics company and will have a team dedicated to finding players.

It is amazing that people moan constantly about the recruitment team (and Thelwell) and then come up with their own wonderful ideas such as pinching Brighton staff... which is exactly what Thelwell did...
in fairness Im amazed massive fan of Red Kev and said do in my original post.

I also think the recruitment team did really well this summer under extremely difficult circumstances
