future defence

Galloway coming through so quickly and with Stones already established means that we have a couple of years as Jagielka declines to embed a strong centre back pairing.

Add in Mori and Holgate and we will have a potentially very strong central defence all going to plan.

Would be excellent to see Garbutt and Kenny come through on the flanks as well.

people just ignoring the fact we've just bought our most expensive central defender ever, or what like

I questioned over the summer whether it was really needed, and that was before we added Holgate to the ranks. I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny eventually replaced Coleman, and obviously Galloway Jags, but we also have Holgate, Pennington and Browning fighting for spots. Of course, four of those players were bought from other clubs, so we can't give the Academy 'too' much credit, but it's still great to see.

Another interesting point is that it appears that alot of players can cover multiple positions:

Baines - LB (maybe CM)
Garbutt - LB / LW
Galloway - LCB / LB
Mori - LCB /LB

Jagielka - RCB / RB /DM
Stones - RCB / RB
Browning - RCB / RB
Holgate - RCB / RB
Pennington RCB / RB
Coleman - RB

In a couple of seasons (whenever Jags and Baines are replaced) then we can cover the full back positions quite easily with players.

It really looks that, as long as the younger players keep developing and Mori is solid then we dont need to add any more players for a very long time indeed.

Also the key for the defence is stability.
