Not just yet matey.

Coleman isn't ready yet but Bily and Becks are? Not sure what evidence that's based on but each to their own.

There was an interesting article on ZonalMarking about how a lot of teams are bringing the trequartista role back to slot into a 4-2-3-1 (three of the four World Cup semi-finalists played that system): http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/12/03/introducing-the-central-winger/

When Cahill is gone I wouldn't mind seeing us experiment with Arteta or Bily trying out that role. So if we played 4-2-3-1 I'd go for either:

Howard
Neville-Jags-Distin-Baines
Fellaini-Rodwell
Coleman-Arteta-Pienaar(or LD)
Beckford

Although Arteta did once upon a time play very well deep-lying so we could try:

Howard
Neville-Jags-Distin-Baines
Arteta-Fellaini
Coleman-Rodwell-Pienaar(or LD)
Beckford

Think I might prefer that one actually. All a bit FM I know but passes the time. Of course once Cahill is back (unless this means we win every game 4-0) you have to accommodate him because he's our only player who can score.

I know Billy doesn't look up to pace (and a bit lightweight) put a seasoned English midfielder would be chuffed with 7 goals and just as many assists in one season, let alone his first.

Billy might not be ready to have alot of pressure put on him week in week out, but he's certainly ready to play regularly.

I agree and I still think he will come good. I still wouldn't put him above Coleman though but it's not really an issue because Bily can't play (well) wide so they aren't really competing for the same spot. Unfortunately for him I think his best spot is where Cahill is and we can't drop Cahill. When Pienaar leaves it might help but there is still Arteta, Fellaini and Rodwell to compete with for a place in the middle.

Thing is, it isn't just a case of putting the best players out regardless of position (see Capello) because you don't have a balanced team. Even if I agreed that Bily was better than Coleman, I might still say we have to play Coleman because he's better on the right.

I don't mind it, it's good to see for once that we have the players to accomodate most formations, even though Moyes won't use a different formation besides 4-5-1

In a year or so, I'd hope to see something like:

Howard
Coleman Jags Distin Baines
Fellaini Rodwell
Arteta
Donovan Anichebe Gueye

That is just TASTY.

That formation would nullify every attacking bone in the bodies of Coleman & Bainsey.

*facepalms*

Rodwell and Fellaini are there to cover. You can even play Arteta in the center of the 3, in a normal 4-3-3 like Chelsea do. And Chelsea's fullbacks certainly get forward enough!

Also, I will not have my formation dissed by someone who plays Arteta level with Cahill!!

Level with Cahill...That's funny!

What does level mean? Are you saying you'd not think Mikel playing right up alongside our front two of Cahill & whoever? would be a good idea??

Cahill is a finisher, Mikel is a creator. Playing them level makes no sense, one would either be too far forward or too far back. Or both.

And in your OP, you've got Arteta and Cahill level just behind Beckford. So yes, I think that's not a good idea.
