Everton 1-2 Spurs

Spurs took all three points in a scrappy match at Goodison Park thanks to a late Jermaine Jenas goal.

The first half started scrappily with both Victor Anichebe and Phil Neville booked for Everton in the first 15 minutes. The 22nd minute saw the first real chance of the match. The ball fell kindly to Leon Osman who volleyed on target. It took a decent save from Robinson to tip it wide.

Spurs took the lead on 35 minutes. Leon Osman lost the ball in the middle and Lennon made him pay. He burst down the wing and cut it back across goal for Dimitar Berbatov. The giant striker made no mistake and curled it beautifully past Tim Howard.

Everton went in at half time on level terms thanks to a wonderful free kick from Mikel Arteta. Uriah Rennie awarded a slightly dubious free kick just 4 minutes before the end of the first half which Arteta curled past the helpless Paul Robinson.

Everton dominated most of the second half but failed to produce a second goal. In the last ten minutes Spurs took control and had a fantastic chance on 82 minutes. Robbie Keane was put through one on one with Tim Howard but he spurned the chance by shooting high and wide.

The game seemed to be fizzling out for a draw until the last minute when Jenas fired into the bottom left corner.
