Player Valuation: £80m
cleverley,gibson,walsh,dowell?

which of these can improve and make a difference to our team? i havent included older players such as kone as i dont think there is any room for improvement there

can any of them play in new positions(mccarthy was tried as a wing back)

can koeman improve them?

will the youngsters be used more? seems like walsh is going to be involved, but why not dowell?

thoughts?

davies is the one we're looking to emerge this season, along with Holgate who looks to be a real bit of quality

I've seen very little of davies so far, but he seems tenacious and intelligent on the ball and i'd hope he gets some games in the cup so we can see what he's about

A big miss the window was a creative midfielder, and to be honest looking at the squad now for me this is the position that needs looking at the most. Barkley has had no competition for 3 years and won't for another now. We should be prepping Davies and Cleverley to be pushing for that spot, because if Ross isn't on it we are really, really going to struggle to find those key final third passes to with wing or centrally.

wondering if deulofeu would be in any good in no. 10 role?

Main reason I didnt want Sissoko last night was not because he's a C$$$ or too expensive or a panic buy but because of the impact it would have on Davies. Happy for Davies path not blocked off and can get some game, which will be easier to come by.
Dowell might also get a few minutes but I'm not 100% he did himself justice pre season. Think Walsh (love the kid) will have to have luck to get a run. We'll see almost anyone in the first team before we see Walsh given a shot.

The way I see it there are two-three brackets of fringe players in the squad.

Bracket 1, potentially useful in certain scenarios, however should really should be improved upon if we are to challenge further up the table;
Robles, Kone, McCarthy, Lennon

Bracket 2, the useless and should've been binned a while ago;
Gibson, Niasse, Oviedo, Cleverly, Mcgeady (I know he's on loan now but we are basically still playing his wages)

Finally, Bracket 3, the youngsters who probably won't make it to the very top but bulk up the numbers in general;
Browning, McAleny, Duffus, Connolly, Henen etc

Potentially harsh on the youngsters, but being realistic only Davies, Galloway and Holgate are in with a shout after proving their worth in previous couple of years. You only have to look at Ledson being moved on to see they won't all make it, in reality we are particularly lucky there are even 2 youngsters who might actually make it this or next year - and even more so to think someone like Barkley emerged.

Hope Browning has recovered well from his injury and can benefit from some RK coaching.
