Player Valuation: £60m
Last nights performance reminded me of how we were playing before the January 2012 window.
The performance was laboured and slow,we were second to the ball ,Southampton outplayed, outfought and largely outthought us in the first half.If Southampton had done what they should have the game would have been well past us by half time.
Too many of the players are looking to settled and too comfortable in the team. This is hardly surprising as well as having a small squad anyway , for the last month we have been missing Hibbert,Gibson,Heitinga and Mirallasas well as Coleman being just back.

The team badly needs a new face or preferably two to put pressure back on the players, the thought of them losing their position I think would make them raise their game substantially. I wonder how Stephen Pienaar would hav played last night if his performance on the night determined if he kept his position or not.The same goes for a number of other players as well.

I think you've a fair point in some respects.

The competition for places may just provide extra impetus to perform well. We have to be careful not to just buy players for the sake of it, though.

Do we want PL experience? Or someone fresh, willing to give it there all to earn the respect of the fans and the manager ?

Ideally both, but it could end up being one or the other.

The midfield of Osman and Neville was shockingly poor. There is no way we can carry on playing those two in there in the absence of Gibson. Fellaini must drop into the middle now.

Mirallas (should he stay fit) will be like a new signing anyway.

Jelavic needs dropping for a couple of games and personally I'd go with a forward combination of Anichebe and Naismith and let Kevin play down the right hand side.

If nobody comes in it wont be the end of the world. We can mix things up abit.

+ lots of games over Christmas, some of our players haven't been rested due to small squad size. We could do with shifting out a couple of the unused fringe players and replacing with someone enthusiastic.

In an ideal world we could just go and get Yann M'vila, Landon Donovan, Lescott and Gary Hooper in early in the window permanently. The reality is that we have to wait until the deadline day to get one, at a push two, before the window closes, on loan. This could still be enough to freshen things up to see us push on again.

Reports of new faces coming in at the end of January.

Phil Neville already has his name down for the first one.

I'll get my coat.

I'm not too concerned really as there is still time left in the window.

But I would agree with most people that it was a really poor performance last night.
We looked really lethargic at times and Jelavic is stranded an awful lot on his own, with often no support.
He loses the ball when it directed to him sometimes because he is swarmed by the opposition.

So I'd agree that we need someone fresh in the squad, a box to box midfielder who can work alongside Osman/Gibson.
Last night's performance stood out like a sore thumb compared to most days but I doubt it will be like that too often, especially as we are at home for the next two league games.

Uncle Phil Neville's highlights helped for a while - but rumour has it that he is also going for a facelift before the end of January -
lots of new faces to look forward to then

yea Kay the old school has run out of steam and the young guns are out on loan - between the devil and the deep blue sea it seems - lets pray for miracles - mabe mixing and matching is our next option -
i believe with a few tweaks and strategic subs we can reignite the Everton fire - Mr Moyes needs to show his class now especially if he has any higher aspirations than keeping Everton in the PL - we know we are miles better than last night;s performance - the buck stops somewhere ............
