in memoriam - 1965-2024
I like my music, I really do. And mostly from around the era Zappa was, well, around.

But I never really took to him. No idea why.

Educate me please. Or otherwise I guess.

I heard that him and The Mothers were at the best place in Montreux, but some stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground...

Or something similar anyway, can't recall the lyrics correctly ffs.

Zappa had big ears, and wrote music for himself. The dirty words were to keep the rubes listening as well. I love his stuff, and he died way too young. He had incredible bands made up of some of the finest musicians you can get your hands on.

here's a personal fave:

Cocaine Decisions is excellent commentary, even if you just read the lyrics.

I like Frank Zappa a lot but I understand that some of his stuff can make for difficult listening for the newcomers to him.

Sexual Harassment In The Workplace is great guitar playing.

The guy was a genius twisted but a genius nevertheless. I was listening to Watermelon in Easter Hay yesterday.

If you ever get the chance, watch his son Dweezil in concert, it's a great show. Zappa plays Zappa.

Frank Zappa's place in my personal pantheon of people who made a significant contribution to modern 'life and culture' is secure. A wonderful (and talented) human being who was WAAAY ahead of his time (he didn't do drugs either...not that that is a hugely relevant qualification to me).
