Oh dear... After the other one a few months back, this is going to cause a massive backlash in France.

Islam is a peaceful religion - but it's becoming increasingly clear that they're far too willing not to look at themselves for what is happening with regularity now and seem content with blaming "Islamophobia" as a cover-all.

Problem is exacerbated by community inaction from Islam, but also from western coverage of the religion itself, which is often condescending and misinformed.

Correct, but what the Islamic community needs to do here is come out and condemn this in the strongest possible terms; with the Charlie Hebdo attacks, for example, they said "oh it's horrible, but you know, don't draw our prophet and this wouldn't happen!"

That's not good enough IMO.

They have an in-built offence mechanic in their religious texts towards their deity/prophet. Literal interpretation of religion causes problems in all religions - Christianity is far from exempt.
