Yeah, but active content is stored in a different phbb forum DB I assume, that's active unless Danny mirrors the DB, static content like a website is easier. The forum DB is consistentl ywritten to and updated.
Some cross over mate but usage wise you're looking at 99% forum compared to the website.
That's why we pay considerably more than ToffeeWeb do for their hosting

I DO know things about the site. By looking at publically available information I can tell its probably hosted on a virtualised server, that guest runs CentOS 5 operating system, I know its running vb4.2, I know roughly how much traffic the forums are seeing and I know that the web server software in use includes Apache. Therefore I can make some educated guess: 1 that the site uses mod_php and 2: since the site went down entirely under load as opposed to just becoming slow or serving error messages apache is almost certainly configured with a large 'server limit' that allows far greater numbers of apache processes than the capabilities of the hardware can manage reliably.
The phrase immediately prior to 'guarantee' was 'pretty much'. In this context I have looked at who hosts your website, looked at their website. Seen various price points mentioned and thought to myself: for each of those price points I can provide some sort of service. Most importantly for each of the price points I can provide a service which exceeds the level of service you are currently getting. I am of course making the assumption that you currently pay for your hosting and its not some kind of favor. Since earlier in the thread you said you could not afford to cater for the peaks I presume this is the case.
Yes I manage the hosting for a large one which is used by another teams fan base.
If you're with the most reputable company then why after the site has crashed under load in the past have they not made attempts to optimise the way in which your website is hosted? Why have they not fixed the blindingly obvious apache mis configuration?
You say that you cannot possibly cater for the usage peaks; presumably thats because your host would want too much money for that. What you probably dont know is that apache with mod php is one of the most resource intensive ways you could be hosting your website. Therefore with a similarly priced hosting plan from somewhere else and a more efficient hosting method it is absolutly possible that you may be able to cater for the peaks going forward without laying more £ on the table.
I can't understand why someone offering such a good service wouldn't do so directly with the admin via email instead of airing all this in public. I'd understand it if it was some spam attempt at advertising but you haven't even mentioned your business.
