What sort of friendship/socialising is acceptable (to you)?

I've kept in touch with my girlfriend from 25'ish years ago and still care for her in some way. Friday evening she sent me a text message that indicated feelings from the old days weren't completely forgotten. At first I was flattered and maybe wanted to write something nice back to her. Then I realised that if my current girlfriend had done something like that I wouldn't have been too happy about it. Can you stay friends with someone you had a (longer) relationship with?

I guess I'm friends of sorts with my son's mum. We were together on and off for ten years from our teens, and our son came along eighteen months from the end. Having a child together has meant we've had to remain in each other's lives, and we've been able to keep things amicable - there's certainly nothing romantic between us any more. She's gone on to marry and have another two kids, and on birthdays and Christmas, we can all spend time together without any grief.

Can I be first ; any photos please

Yes you can stay friends I don't see why not but don't seem confused when your current gf cannot get used to the idea. Remember what will be going through her head, you were once close so what is stopping you from being close again?

With one particular girlfriend from my teens I have a strong platonic friendship. We realised at the time we were better off friends and it stuck.

The wife found it very difficult at first for the obvious reasons, but she soon realised our feelings weren't like that and eventually accepted it.
