Football's problems in one essay

Very good article reflecting many of my own feelings about the way the game I started watching at the end of the 50s/early 60s has "developed"
And that's without mentioning VAR, PEDS, and ongoing corruption.
:(

A lot of Everton's issues can be traced back to the events mentioned here. A great if slightly sobering read!!

That’s a fantastic article, and nails absolutely all of it. It’s not just football though, as mentioned, it’s the way of current globalisation.

It’s not just in football where there’s no consequences (for blatant disregard of FFP, for bribery, for affiliation with despots and murderous regimes) but in global life where there’s no consequences. No consequences for our government lies and corruption, no consequences for Bezos’s fortunes growing so rapidly while Americans suffer record joblessness and inequality, no consequences for known illegalities in elections.

The world, and football as a major part of it, is sick.

I actually liked the piece so much that I read it thrice. It depressed me even further though so I'll stop at that.

Football mimics real life even though we like to think that it is a welcome distraction away from our wretched real world problems. The 80s were indeed simpler times but that come with hooliganism and violence sometimes.
Now the posh and rich are creating monopolies everywhere from Microsoft to Man City.

Whether FFP is right or wrong is another matter, but Man City's CAS verdict seems to be a complete sham to me. The CAS 3 member panel was supposed to consist of 3 members, with one being a UEFA appointee, one from ManCity and another neutral person. Instead Man City got to appoint 2 member of the panel including the supposedly neutral person and to no one's surprise, these 2 were the ones who decided to overturn the original verrdict in a 2-1 majority win.
Man City "won" their appeal in a kangaroo court and got away. Why didn't UEFA question the panels composition? Are the Sheikhs bribing everyone everywhere?
