A classic photo in football history, this.

Just read the wiki article on Robin Friday. . . . . . . . . The guy sounds like Duncan Ferguson on speed

"Following a number of incidents, on and off the field—including kicking Mark Lawrenson in the face mid-game[n 2]—Friday retired from football in December 1977, aged 25"

Anyone remember a young lad we had on the books, christ, maybe 10-15 years ago; Jamie Pike ?

Sorry can't remember him.was he good like

Too young to tell really, but he was a local lad, (Portishead), and he was training with Eberton as a schoolboy, which is why I noticed really. They must have had sessions in the holidays or something. The reason I ask if anyone knew, or remembered him, is that his story is more unusual than the normal, "drink/drugs/girls" one, and might be upsetting if someone knew him, but didnt know why he never made it.

..its a tough one this because although many have not fulfilled their potential, many of the blokes on here have ended up financially secure for the rest of their days. I suspect some are sitting on their private beach with a bevy of beauts not thinking for one minute that they blew it.
Anybody who gets a premiership contract or two these days is made for life, so I suppose lads from yesteryear like Mark Ward are the ones who truly lost their way.

I remember Sonny Pike, not sure he was on our books. Or even if he's the one you mean.

Pretty sure it was Jamie, but Sonny might have been a nickname. Was Sonny Pike a local lad, cos Jamie Pike was from Portishead?

Nah think Sonny was southern, remember he was at Ajax or soemthing for a bit so probably a different guy.

Sonny Pike was more a child prodigy than someone with real potential.
