Footballers being decent people

As an antidote to recent drink driving stories, transfer deadline strikes and strops and all the other nonsense behaviour that footballers get up to I thought a thread of them actually being nice or doing something commendable might be in order.

I'll kick off with Leo Messi making a young lad's day after a grok security guard with a bad Hitler youth haircut tried to ruin it....Note the lack of massive headphones which a lot of players without 10% of his talent or profile often wear to mask and excuse their ignorance of and contempt for the little people.

In Argentina, meanwhile, Javier Zanetti has set the highest of charitable standards, first setting up the PUPI foundation to provide impoverished children with education and nutrition, then linking up with Inter Milan team-mate Esteban Cambiasso to establish another charity, Leoni di Potrero, aimed at helping youngsters with social difficulties. Zanetti, who is also a FIFA ambassador for the SOS Children's Villages project in Argentina, has said this of his work: "There must always be values at the heart of sport. I've always believed that our public actions need to take account of our social responsibility."
