Policeman SHOT friend in chest over Liverpool taunts following defeat to Arsenal

The cop in South Africa, who has not been named, is a Liverpool fan and was livid when taunted over his side’s 2-0 loss

A policeman was arrested after allegedly shooting a friend in a furious row over Saturday’s Premier League match between Arsenal and Liverpool.

The cop, who has not been named, is a Liverpool fan and was livid when taunted over his side’s 2-0 defeat.

Eyewitnesses said he pulled out his gun and shot his pal in the chest.

The shocking incident happened in Durban, South Africa minutes after the game had finished.

A group of friends were enjoying a barbecue while watching the match but many of them were Man Utd fans who taunted the police captain over the result.

One witness said he then pulled out a gun shouted “Manchester United – who?” and fired a shot.

His friend collapsed to the floor with blood pouring from a wound.

He was taken to hospital with injuries to his lung and liver.

The policeman was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

He later complained of feeling unwell and was admitted to hospital, where he is still under police guard.

He was in bed asleep. Never happened. Chelsea fans in that boozer...they obviously did it...or a passing UEFA official out to get him.

I expect an Echo campaign to follow.

Really is quite bizarre. It is 13,887 km from Durban to Anfield and this man is so passionate and so aggressively supportive of Liverpool that he will try to kill his friend for the Reds honour.
I understand you put rationality aside to watch football but I genuinely cannot get my head around this.

South African football fans are mad for the English League. Much much much more passionately supported than local league (with exceptions of Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates).
The love of Liverpool in Durban is huge though- they're selling out the stadium for a 'legends' match in 10 days time-

Chiefs Legends: Abel Shongwe, Ace Khuse, Arthur Zwane, Brian Baloyi, Cyril Nzama, Doctor Khumalo, Fani Madida, Frank Makua, Gardner Seale, Lucas Radebe, Neil Tovey, Ntsie Maphike, Shane MacGregor, Shoes Moshoeu, Stanton Fredericks, Thabo Mooki, Wellington Manyathi, William Shongwe.

Liverpool Legends: Bruce Grobbelaar, Mark Wright, Michael Thomas, Jason Mcateer, Rob Jones, Phil Neal, Alan Kennedy, Jan Molby, Dietmar Hamann, John Barnes, Gary Mcallister, Steve Mcmananan, David Fairclough, Robbie Fowler, John Aldridge, Phil Thompson, Roy Evans, Ian Callaghan.
