After 'Howard's Way' there may be another one worth a quick squint at on sky documentaries.

Not about us unfortunately but for football drama hard to beat ....

It's called simply '89 and includes classic footage and interviews telling the story of one of football's greatest triumphs - Arsenal's history-making win against Liverpool at the pit when Michael Thomas scored in the very last minute to switch the destination of the league title away from Anfield and down instead to Highbury, on goal difference too (0-2).

(Liverpool only needed any result better than a loss by two goals and Anfield was packed for one of those famous nights under floodlights and a big party, 0-1 into the last minute it was their's, then Michael Thomas changed it all, bursting through on a breakaway accepting a pass and finishing brilliantly, their balloon burst and the ground went completely silent - all except for the noisy Arsenal contingent in their section of the Anfield Road end)

There's a book called 'Fever Pitch' by Nick Hornby on this too which is worth a read

.....It's all about the football too, including match clips on how the race had gone with key turning points and the ominous presence of the [Poor language removed] coming good on their tails, plus a huge section of the documentary devoted to that key match - with every twist and turn and the dramatic moment when Thomas put a dagger in the rs supporters hearts..

We had to wait until the City Aguero goal decades later for even a contender to match it, but for my mind this goal, both being in the dying seconds, was even more dramatic as Arsenal were huge outsiders going to fortress Anfield knowing a 1-0 win would actually represent defeat in the title race.

City made a mess of a formality in only eventually beating the basement strugglers QPR, even if it was a brilliant late twist and fantastic drama, Arsenal's had that extra totally against the odds element as well as that late, late goal and it was the [Poor language removed] who were left on their knees in disbelief, always an added bonus.

Not sure appropriate as not a story or fiction but something that happened, football history, but tbh it wouldn't really spoil enjoyment of the program anyway imo.

Apologies for [poor language removed] flagging in my last post, I used derogatory terms for Liverpool and should have replaced them.

My apologies. Trying to make joke. I watched the match on ITVHub with my eldest recently. An important part of his indoctrination. And how we laughed.

What?!? You mean Arsenal won that?!? I was almost as distraught that season as when I knew Stevie G had the league sewn up when he said they wouldn't slip up so I didn't watch the end of that season either. Oh well down from 21 league titles to 20...
Asterisks, (brackets), ''We deserve a trophy for nearly winning''. There's no depths these rogues won't plumb.
