First openly gay footballers?

Unless 'outed' by the tabloids I can't see any gay player coming out soon in the Prem.

Many fan's remain horribly stuck in the past.

We've thankfully progressed re issues of ethnicity, but attitudes to LGBT footballers remain less enlightened.

Yeah,i think it would be brilliant for footy,if they came out as Gay,whoever they are, what happened to the papers,a year ago or so that were going to name 2 England players was it,i just dont see what the problem is,after a week or 2 off probably been watched close on the pitch etc, anything would die down i would think myself

Apparently there is a fair few gay footballers in the prem today, whose agents know about it.

But I think it is hard for them to come out especially with football being as toxic as it can be sometimes

But its their right to keep it to themselves if they want to, I just hope they don't feel they HAVE to keep it private.

We have openly gay rugby players and openly gay sports people in other sports as well.Football is the ultimate way to make peace with people and break barriers. But there is one last barrier to break through.I think there should be an environment where football players who are gay feel that they don't need to keep it a secret but sadly that isn't the case.I think we have come a long way from Brian Clough and his poof clubs jibes at the late Justin Fashanu. But i think there's a lot still to do with regards to fighting homophobia in football.I think the world cup next year being in a country that is infamous for it's homophobia kind of reinforces this issue. This is the peoples club and we welcome all people. The only people im prejudiced against are Liverpool and Feyenoord supporters!

Weren't the papers about to name Gary Speed? If that's the result of the pressure put on these guys, then it needs to stop now.

It's never affected the music I like or actors or comedians, so why should I care if a player is gay? As Dr Leech said, more rampant totty for us real men. Who cares, move on etc..

I'm saying the papers absolutely weren't and like all , well at least the huge majority of the other rumours flying around at the it's absolute rubbish .

To be honest mate I don't think that's a massively appropriate topic for debate to be honest certainly not based on any kind of fact . I also know certain people who were close to Gary are match going blues and may well frequent message boards like this .

The second part of your post seems well reasoned and completely reasonable, the first part seems to me to be ungrounded speculation although I don't think you mean to be offensive like I say I don't think it's at all appropriate.
