I went to the derby on Thursday. We stayed downtown in the liner hotel. It was surprising how many LFC fans there were compared to Everton. Once we made it to Goodison is when we really started to feel the atmosphere. The only pubs we checked out were the Winslow hotel (not many people there which seemed odd to me) and the Royal Oak (had a blast there). All the Everton fans we talked with were friendly as could be.

Walked over to Anfield was excellent seeing all of the blues. The atmosphere in the away blocks were amazing (until the 40th minute).

After the math we went back to the Royal Oak and saw many of the same faces and people were still friendly and in decent spirits.

Lastly grabbed a couple of beers at whetherspoons (I think downtown) and mingled with LFC fans.

I know most of you experience this regularly and do not think twice about it. However I thoroughly enjoyed my time (even though we had a sh*t result) and look forward to coming back to a match at Goodison.

The game was at Anfield in fairness.

And also... welcome to Everton mate haha!

Are you a lady from Chicago by any chance? I bumped into such a person about half an hour after the game queueing for the cash machine opposite the Royal Oak!

Yeah I just assumed I would see more than 2 Everton shirts downtown from 2PM-5PM

I can only assume you picked that as your first match because you wanted to see our old ground.

I actually planned to see them Saturday at Crystal Palace since I am in London for the week. This worked out better in my opinion.

Ahh shame.

Glad you enjoyed your visit though!

We ain't big shirt wearers, with being adults and that! Also their home game, not ours which is why they had the greater presence.

Roles reversed when we are at home.

Fair enough. I enjoy wearing a jersey/scarf so I stuck out a bit. Will definitely return for the next derby at home.

You picked the wrong week to come over for your first game. Try Goodison Park for a home game next time mate.

You didn't notice so many EFC shirts 2pm - 5pm because, being a weekday and seeing as most match going blues are local, a fair portion of us were in work. The LFC shirts in the afternoon were most likely because a large part of their support are overseas 'day-trippers', which in all fairness is something that has been known to irk even some reds.

Of course I'm not saying foreign fans are lesser fans, that's clearly not the case - what I mean is the majority of our matchgoing support is local (not the case with LFC) which explains your noticing of a lack of Everton shirts.

Also, you'll find that even though Anfield is in the same city, it was still an away game which reduces the amount of away fans at the actual ground. A lot of blues tend not to wear replica shirts over the age of, say, 12-ish when not at the game - if you'd come over for a home tie at Goodison on a Saturday, your experience would've been reversed. And the pubs by GP would also be packed, as opposed to the aftermath of a 0-4 away defeat to Liverpool.

Also please watch the swears please mate.

The reason you didn't see many Everton shirts In town at that time is simply because Evertonians are largely local. If you was in town at 9am on matchday and around the LFC Store on Williamson Square, you would have witnessed many Liverpool fans, mostly from other European countries.

shame you had to endure that as your first game . The cowardly manager and players should be ashamed

First time I visited Liverpool I was amazed at how effectively the vermin had cornered the indigenous Liverpudlian Asian market. Bus loads of them there was.

OP - such a pity that was your first game. Do you have to go into quarantine when you return to the U.S. as a result of your visit to analfield?

Ethnicity (and locality) is irrelevant mate, you'll find that adult Scouse Evertonians simply don't wear replica shirts on non-matchdays, whereas every Liverpool fan of every walk of life seemingly feels the need to.

We have our identity you see. They need to conform to cult rules and that, but anyway..... lol

Was more an observation on your point about foreign day trippers.

Anyway forever grateful that Evertonians don't feel obligated to walk around with custom lettering on the back of a strip ala EFC 4 EVA irrespective of whether that's to the match or just to get milk from the shop ;)

I disagree any match for a first match is a great week. Just glad to be there, will visit Goodison soon for sure. With all of the teams I support in different sports I have always enjoyed going to away games/matches as much as the home ones.

I guess that explains it. Did not know that most of the match goers were locals.
