FIFA is considering the south american model. There idea is to reduce the number of teams in europe from 13 to 12 and have 4 groups of 9, top 3 qualifying.

This would be spread over all the international breaks and ensure its place in the calendar. It would increase tv ratings as games would be more competitive and bring more money in advertising. Crowds are falling and tv revenues are getting hit hard. Nations like hungary, romania, bulgaria are playing liechtenstein, luxwmbourg and san marino in stadiums with no more than 2000 people. it doesnt help development of either nations. Like in Africa, there would be a pre qualifying game to eliminate the minnows.

Based on rankings when the draw took place assuming the top ranked team won the play off this would be the 4 groups of 8

Group 1 - Spain, Italy, Montenegro, Denmark, Slovakia, Ireland, Ukraine, Bulgaria
Group 2 - Holland, Croatia, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Belgium, Belarus, Scotland
Group 3 - Germany, Norway, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Austria
Group 4 - England, Portugal, France, Sweden, Serbia, Czech Rep, Hungary, Romania

No real easy games. The games would be competitive. top 3 qualifying. TV would be interesting and it would also test the teams quality.

In friendlies we dont play strong sides. With this format we could really find out how good everyone is. Greece are incredible affective at beating the likes of latvia, lithuania and cyprus then when they play croatia they put everyone behind the ball and play for 1-0 and thats how they qualify. By removing the rubbish you make it competitive, by increasing the games you make it more enjoyable and interesting and teams will attack to win games and stadiums would be full.

A serious question does the Isle of Man have an international football team, and if not, why not?

FIFA ruled in about 1990 that it would only accept new teams who were members of the UN, since the isle of man didn't have a FIFA team then it won't get one now. Greenland, Catelonia and Kosovo and a few others are in the same boat.

It's football team does compete in non fifa competitions like the island games though.

Thanks to you too

Third best in the world lad.

Really? Only two of Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, France, the Netherlands -- just to name a few -- are better? Eking out a 1-1 home draw with Ukraine ought to do wonders for the ranking. No. 2, perhaps? But then again, as No. 2 is sometimes a euphemism for shit over here, it just might be appropriate.
