Awesome, lid.
Ah, the Club World Cup. Should be the crowning achievement of a club to win it, yet nobody really seems to care...
Do you?
I... Sort of do? It's fun in principle, but I think the format holds it back a bit. One club from each confederation (plus one from the host nation) means that, 95% of the time, it'll be some South American club vs some European club in the final and the rest are just cannon fodder, unless a Mexican* side decides to punch above their weight and make it to the final. So, it just turns out to be the Intercontinental Cup anyway.
Anyway, it started a couple of days ago. You may have missed it, since basically only minnows were playing. Semifinals are set.
Dec 17 Auckland City (New Zealand) vs San Lorenzo (Argentina)
Dec 16 Cruz Azul (Mexico) vs Real Madrid
That Auckland/San Lorenzo match should be entertaining. Auckland are, quite literally, an amateur side, yet they've still managed to off two different African clubs. And now they get to play the champions of South America. lol
Exhibit A as to why nobody takes this competition seriously?
Cruz Azul vs Real Madrid should be a bit more interesting, although I doubt Real will send out their A team. Cruz Azul are a good side, but it's still Mexican footie.
*Yeah, technically CONCACAF, but every CONCACAF entrant to the CWC except one so far has been Mexican. Seriously.
