Joe Lathan, director of broadband at Virgin Media says: "As part of a review of our services, we are changing the price of taking just broadband from us. Virgin Media is the only major provider able to supply broadband without a phone line because of our unique cable network and so we remain unbeatable value for money."

Not doubting you're vastly more knowledgeable than I am, but is Mr. Lathan just lying then?

Virgin aren't offering an xDSL service, they're using their fibre network? He's not lying, you're miss quoting

How am I misquoting, that was word for word. I'm not trying to be funny or anything here, it's just that I genuinely don't understand, as I don't have a phone line, but I do have the internet.

Naked DSL isn't a big thing. You can get it over here from just about every provider (its all in the setup, and they are fleecing you for voice service).

Also...FTTC...pfft.

I am FTTP baby!!!!

Thats just it tho mate, nobody cares about the variables, they only care that it works and it works all the time, most people I know who have BT/Sky cry like lil bishes, so it doesnt matter if its FFP or FHL, they offer a poor service.

If it is anything like over here, xDSL is an unguaranteed service that has 'best efforts' response. People expect the world for a connection they pay peanuts for. If you want guaranteed uptime and service response, you have to pay for it, which is something 99% of people don't want to do.

OK, sorry, got cha.

XDsl services run over the copper network. These include ADSL and FTTC products sold in the UK. They require an analogue phone line to work.

Virgin used to sell xDsl services too, but they discontinued them last year. They now only sell services that run over their hybrid fibre-coaxial network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_fibre-coaxial).

They are both Broadband services, which is a term used to describe an internet connection that is quicker than the old style 56k modem and ISDN2e (64k & 128k) services. Not all broadband type services run over a copper line though, which is why your Virgin service doesn't have a copper (analogue) phone line running into your house.

It's the same.
