Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has accused Tottenham of "blatant manipulation" over the signing of defender Zeki Fryers and wants the Premier League to investigate the deal.

Fryers left United for Standard Liege for a small compensation fee in August, after Spurs baulked at paying £6m.

But now Spurs have signed the 20-year-old from Standard for a reported £3m.

"I'm disappointed in Tottenham. I think it's a blatant manipulation of the situation," said Ferguson.

"I think the league should look into it and I think they should stop his registration until they examine it."

Strange how Spurs would have had to pay £6million and Standard got him for buttons. Who could blame spurs for it if they have.

Wasn't there a yugoslavian at Betis who Real wanted but Betis wouldn't sell directly to a rival?

So Coventry bought him and then sold him onto Real without ever actually playing him?

Because english teams have to play compensation to other english teams when picking up kids of that age who have been offered a contract.

Non english teams don't have to, so Liege didn't.

What's he moaning about? Spurs haven't broken the rules (or done anything wrong IMO).

It's a bit dodgy, like. If you take an under 23 year old from a club when a contracts on the table you owe them compensation.

Getting a foreign club to snap him up and then sell him to you for cheap to avoid having to pay that compensation is you know bending the rules a little.

Seem to remember this happening in the 80's when Jim McLean refused to let Richard Gough sign for Rangers. He signed for Spurs and then came back north. Spurs of course made a small profit on the deal and got the use of Goughie for a year.
