Always liked Felli

He was our version of Cantona

A useful tactical option for certain games but if you're building your midfield around Fellaini then you'll never play great football. That was why in my mind Moyes moved him further forward because the Fellaini Roswell deep midfield was turgid. As soon as he brought actual footballers like Osman Arteta, even Gibson back in the deeper positions the midfield worked and Fellaini could just create havoc upfront.

You can't deny his work rate, attitude, aerial ability, control, ability to press the opposition and disrupt play, but he's not the midfield maestro to build a side around. His passing range is woeful, he can't dribble or run particularly well with the ball, has zero guile, not much acceleration.

At DM he had the tendency to monopolize the ball in the defensive half of the pitch. I thought Arteta-Fellani was going to be the best CM pairing the prem but for the most part it was Teta running around looking for something to do. Both players seemed to have their best matches when the other was injured. For some reason Gibson made it work though maybe because Arteta was just used to running things and couldn't adjust to having a partner.
