Fatigue?

Player Valuation: £750k
David Moyes and a couple of players have come out after the Wigan game and explained that one of the reasons they were shoite was due to tiredness, fatigue and generally the amount of effort that went into the Citeh win.

Does anyone actually think that this is a valid excuse for a patchy (at best) performance?

Wonder what these fellas would do if they had to work a 50-60 hour week?

Its possible but i wouldn't have thought it would be to much of an issue. Maybe the older players. But with the right nutrition and rest their bodies should have recovered within 48hrs. they wouldn't have trained heavy for the rest of the week i wouldn't have thought.

It's ridiculous. If I can play a midweek game then one at the weekend without if affecting me then so than they considering it's not my job solely to keep fit.

I can understand players being fatigued when they get back from Poland on a Friday after playing in the Europa League, but there's no excuse for being 'fatigued' at Wigan four days after a home game.

If they were that tired Moyes should have just given them four days off or done two days of light training. But I know for a fact they got one day off and did three days' training.

It's a f*cking joke.

I think the players were tired after Moyes' "lets snatch a point" team talk. It's strange that pre premiership, top teams could go through an entire season with about 16 players, often playing twice a week, constantly on the booze and fags, yet after 90 minutes of putting a shift in, the much fitter modern player is knackered.

Whether they believe that or not, shouldn't be saying that outside the club. Comes off as very poor.

We played 90 minutes against City, not 90 plus extra time. Honestly if they're moaning about being 'tired' now i'd hate to see them if we were in the Europa league.

If they were that tired it should have been picked up before the game and players rotated. We had Jelavic, Drenthe, Anichebe, Gueye, Duffy etc all fresh.

While I agree that the average Premier league football wouldn't even be able to comprehend a working week, I think the nature of the two games has to be taken into account.

The players gave everything against City. I remember at one point Donovan running the length of the pitch twice. The Wigan game was spoilt because of the pitch. A heavy surface like that would make 90 seem like 120.

Plus we haven't got the youngest squad, like.

I don't think this can be written off as easily as all that - the pace of the Premier league and level required means that even the slightest delay in reaction times caused by fatigue can make a huge difference in performance.

Ideally of course, you would rotate players in to avoid this becoming an issue but that isn't in Moyes' gameplan.

Having said all that, you'd think that we would have the quality to put a game againt a pants team like Wigan regardless, but its a bit harsh to slate the players that badly for coming out and saying it.

Yeah, they're on 17 squillion pounds a week so shouldn't ever be like normal human beings and suffer from any tiredness at all.

Maybe it is bollocks but don't some players run about 10,000 metres in a game? Even ones who don't run that far still put a shift in so even though they should be super fit its still likely to have some affect surely.

they should try a day in the tour-da-france ffs. 24hrs with your feet up and all fatigue is gone. sheez-. in my early 20s i was hod carrying up ladders above 1st floor level day after day and at that age you dont get jaded. i dont believe they are serious- someone at EFC is popcorning with that statement

I think people are forgetting the state of the pitch at Wigan - it was fairly terrible which meant it was alot harder work generally. It also hampered the more skilfull players when it came to running with the ball - a number of times the ball got stuck.

To me this is one of the reasons Drenthe wasnt used - his running with the ball would have been useless as the ball would have just got stuck in the pitch
