Not sure if there has been a thread about them, but bearing in mind that Prince William has started a 6 week secondment there, what price that Argentina "test our resolve", so to speak?

Could be interesting.........

The Falklands are British, deal with it.

Proximity has no bearing on who has the right to them, the islanders are British citizens, they wish to stay British citizens and we will protect them. The Argentinian trade blockades etc. are pathetic.

There's a nuclear sub down there and one of the new destroyers on it's way. The Falkland's is also much better defended now than it was at the last war, whilst the Argentine military has gone backwards. There's also still about 20,000 landmines from the last war still around. I can't see the Argentinian government going to war. The only reason the Falklands are back in the news is because Argentina is having a rough time at the moment.

Threaten with mad cow and foot and mouth (with advice to Maradona etc to keep foot out of).

Every Argie I ever met blamed their govt for getting a generation slaughtered.

Now maybe if they were to convert to Islam ?

The only reason we ever gave a toss about the island is the oil that surrounds it

I belive they began drilling a few years ago

They aint found any yet tho have they?

On Wednesday Rockhopper said it had found further oil in its Sea Lion prospect, where it announced substantial quantities in March.

The company estimates there are 350m barrels of recoverable oil in the field it has been exploring - enough to turn the Falklands into a significant oil production centre.

It said it expected production to peak at about 120,000 barrels per day in 2018.

It has not said how it plans to fund development, though analysts say partnership with another oil company is a possibility.
