Could someone more politically savvy than myself please explain to me the implications of if they were to vote no to being British?

The Argies would send troops and take over the Islands and the British wouldn't be able to oppose this and send troops as it would look like they were being bullies.
If they have the support of the Islanders they look like saviours if they were to send troops.

You want some of this Kirchner?

A second referendum on any possible alternatives would be held.

So does this vote actually mean that much?

Why are we fighting over the land anyway?

The only reason this is taking place is to reinforce to the international community that the Islanders want to be british, the out come of the referendum is not in doubt. Its just so we would have a ligitimate reason to defend them if the need was ever to arise.I think.

Its been historically ruled by Britain for a few hundred years i think, and basically we just dont want to give it up. That and the potential oil fields that are in the area. Is the reason we have been fighting over them.

Argentina is a lot closer in proximity to the Islands and claims they should belong to them.
