Player Valuation: £90m
Under the proposals outlined by the FA on Monday:

  • A player will have to have been registered with his club from the age of 15 - a drop from the current age of 18 - to qualify as 'home-grown'.
  • The minimum number of home-grown players in a club's first-team squad of 25 will increase from eight to 12, phased over four years from 2016.
  • At least two home-grown players must also be 'club-trained' players - defined as any player, irrespective of nationality, that has been registered for three years at their current club from the age of 15.
  • Only the best non-EU foreign players will be granted permission to play in England, with the process for dealing with work-permit appeals to be tightened.
Good for the national game and hopefully grass roots but rubbish for clubs like Everton who may want to buy non-EU players but can't afford 'the best'.

Any idea if the homegrown definition is retrospective? Iirc Lukaku currently qualifies as a homegrown player as he was registered with a UK club for 3 years prior to his 21st birthday.

Meeting the homegrown quota has neverbeen an issue in our squad but it might be some under the new rules and might knock some ofmhis resale value off to a club like City who have struggled for homegrown players.

Seems a bit right wing to me.

Its a ploy to make sure we can bring more Jordan Hendersons and Tom Cleverleys into the league rather than your Sergio Ageuros.

An excellent idea that will mean the next Sky deal will only be worth 25p to Clubs next time its up for renewal.

Well done The English FA, you bunch of piss stained kiddy fiddlers.

Will improve the quality of the English game and decrease the quality in Europe as a result.

either that or the likes of Chelsea will buy their players even younger thus a new age version of the slave trade so to speak as young kids will be shipped all over the world for cash
